From the STC 2002 Region 7 Conference hosted by STC Canada West Coast: From Desktop to Palmtop—Creating Usable Online Documents for Handheld Devices Over the last 10 years, we’ve learned to plan online documents carefully, write succinctly, design for delivery on the screen rather than the page, and use images and other media with restraint and skill. Now new challenges have emerged. The large number of handheld devices (using the Palm and Pocket PC operating systems) already in use impose even greater restrictions on those who design help and Web content. This session will examine the problems and opportunities for technical communicators who must deal with even smaller screens, lower resolution, and user environments that require us to rewrite the rules for online document design and delivery.
