STC Awards Canada West Coast Chapter as Pace Setter 2006

September 27, 2006, Vancouver, BC - The Society for Technical Communication (STC) recently presented the Canada West Coast chapter with the Pacesetter award. Several chapter members were present at the STC annual conference to receive the award for “showing a willingness to embark on new journeys; and for not only embracing change, but implementing innovative technologies for the betterment of your community and others.” The chapter also won the award in 2005.

“It’s encouraging that the society is recognizing our efforts to offer innovative online services for our members and the business community,” said incoming 2006/2007 President, Odile Morrison. The Canada West Coast web site, http://www.stcwestcoast.ca, currently offers an online directory of Contractors and Consultants. Employers can also advertise contract and permanent positions in the free online Job Bank service.

This fall, the chapter is completing their three year plan to upgrade the online services they provide. Their new dynamic web site is being released, designed to better serve the technical communication industry in BC. As part of this redesign, the chapter newsletter is moving online.

Morrison expressed that the Canada West Coast chapter is pleased to accept the Pacesetter award. “Congratulations and thanks to all of those volunteers and members who have contributed to bringing this award home for the second year in a row.”
