The long and the short of it is:
This year we had no vice president come in, so next year we had no president.
The BC Gov’t requires that you operate with three directors and in our case, these would be the president, secretary, and treasurer.
We also have no volunteers for the programs team who wanted to lead the team.
We lost our PR volunteer, our announcements volunteer, the professional development workshop volunteer…
And that’s basically everything the chapter does.
So not only were we looking at not having directors, but we also didn’t have volunteers to run the show.
And I thought, why should four to five people have to carry the load when the chapter has 300 members? Other people can participate, they just don’t.
So I put out that Call for Change message, got mostly positive responses.
Then the Region 7 Director said he was thrilled with the idea and offered his support.
And now we have a president.
So the chapter is mostly on track. We now need a secretary (about 1/hr month job).
And it’s up to the chapter members to continue the discussion about how the chapter should work and to make things happen.
Volunteer opportunities can now be one-off instead of year long commitments, unless the person is interested in something specific that takes a long time. For example, Tony Chung is helping us bring our website code into compliance with XHTML and to fix up our website templates. Lisha is the weblead who enjoys taking care of the website on an on-going basis.
