Practical Diagram Design: How to Make Lasagna Instead of Spaghetti
User experience consultant Noah Iliinsky will review the fundamental factors that come into play when designing a diagram or other information visualization, including considerations of context, audience, and perception. Examples will include some uses and misuses of visualization to convey particular points of view. If time permits, Noah will offer informal feedback on current projects.

The speaker
Noah Iliinsky has spent the last several years thinking about effective approaches to creating diagrams and other types of information visualization. He also works in interface and interaction design, all from a functional and user-centred perspective. Before becoming a designer he was a programmer for several years. He has a master’s degree in Technical Communication from the University of Washington, and a bachelor’s in Physics from Reed College.
