Program Meeting: ISO what? |
February 2003 Program Meeting: ISO what?
As a standards development organization, the International Organization for Standardization writes and publishes several international management system standards. Organizations wishing to register their management systems to these standards are required to document their system(s) and fulfill specific data and document requirements.
At the STC February program, QMI, Canada’s largest ISO Registrar, will introduce you to the “ISO” industry, provide an overview of the latest ISO 9001:2000 quality management system model and outline the specific documentation requirements embodied by the model. You will also have a opportunity to learn first hand from technical writer Sharon Twiss as she shares her experiences and the challenges inherent in documenting the registered ISO 9001 quality management system at Delta Controls.
Pa(Tricia) Cooper, BSc, LA (QMS) is a Manager of Client Services for Western North America QMI. Since graduating from the University of Guelph with an Honors Bachelor of Science degree, Tricia has held a series of positions focused on business development, marketing and management systems within various technical business sectors including: electronics, photography and the environment. Introduced to the concept of management systems in 1990, Tricia worked as a manager in an environmental laboratory, and then as a business development consultant prior to joining QMI, in 1996 as a certified QMS Lead Auditor and Regional Executive. As the Manager for Client Services in Western North America, Tricia is currently based in the QMI Vancouver office where her responsibilities include: business development, client relations, registration strategy development, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
Sharon Twiss graduated from the Douglas College Professional Writing Program in 2001. She is now employed by Delta Controls Inc, a local high tech manufacturer for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. Delta Controls is an ISO9001:2000-registered company, and Sharon is the internal auditor of their quality management system. She uses her technical communication skills to document the company’s internal processes and to bring the value of the ISO Standard to the various departments within Delta Controls. Sharon Twiss is Vice President of the STC Canada West Coast Chapter.
