New Directions

This year, the STC Canada West Coast chapter will focus on thriving and making a difference in our community – earning more money, giving back to the community, reaching out to remote members, and using new technology to thrive as a partly “virtual” chapter.

At our first meeting of the year, a combined remote and on-site meeting will demonstrate the chapter’s commitment to members from out of town, as well as to face-to-face networking for people who attend in person.

Incoming chapter president Karen Rempel will present the chapter’s vision for making a difference in the community and the plans to enhance the chapter’s online presence via forums, wikis, and other “virtual” activities. Then RJ Jacquez, Senior Product Evangelist, Adobe Technical Communication Suite, will demonstrate this commitment by speaking to us from San Diego, CA about the new Adobe Suite.

Following RJ’s presentation, Karen will introduce the volunteers who keep the chapter going. Bring your questions and ideas for new ways to help our chapter thrive as we pursue this new direction!

Speakers:

Karen Rempel is president of Monkey Valley Enterprises Inc., which offers technical writing services and wilderness retreats (http://www.monkeyvalleyretreat.com). She was vice president of the STC CWC chapter in 1998-1999, and treasurer the year before. She was in the first Print Futures class at Douglas College, graduating in 1993, and recently completed a master’s degree in ecopsychology at Naropa University, in Boulder, CO. She expresses her passion about making a difference in the world as a volunteer teaching yoga to young people at a correctional facility, and is a member of several wilderness protection groups.

RJ Jacquez is the Senior Product Evangelist for the Adobe Technical Communication Suite. Version 1.3 includes Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, Adobe Presenter 7 and Adobe 3D Reviewer. You will learn how Adobe Acrobat is redefining the way Technical Communicators and Instructional Designers communicate with offerings such as PDF Portfolios and the new free services (http://www.acrobat.com) so please join us live as RJ reviews the newest features and answers your questions.
