Publicizing the Contractor directory |
In 2004/2005 the Contractors group developed an online directory where contractors and independent technical communicators can showcase their talents. Over 30 members have posted their profiles in the STC Contractor Directory.
On Tuesday, April 19, 2005, members of the Contractors group met to develop an action plan to publicize this resource to businesses and industry associations. Those present decided to carry out various tasks during May and June 2005, with the aim of starting a publicity campaign in early July.
Agreed actions
# Draft a press release and request feedback from group
# Research a list of media contacts to receive the press release
# Write a page “Tips on hiring a contractor”
# Write a disclaimer for web site
# Fix some minor issues with the directory
# Create/obtain from PR a list of industry associations
Scope of the directory
After some discussion, the group decided to limit membership of the directory to current STC members. Members of CWC chapter list their profiles free of charge. STC members who have not joined the CWC chapter will be charged $20.
