Years experience:30+ Career profile:I have been involved in technical documentation and publishing for more than 30 years - as a writer, editor, project leader, and documentation software guru. I have developed integrations for document management systems such as Livelink, acted as a project manager on complex document management projects, and am the North American representative for Turn-Key’s TopLeaf XML Composition Software. I am available for contract work in any of the above areas. Industry expertise:Technical documentation (writer/editor) at Mitel (1984-1991) and earlier at DeHavilland Aircraft (1977-1980). Currently, I also produce technical manuals and training materials for our own products (XMLComposer, and TopLeaf), and have worked on requirements specifications. Between 1995 and 1997, I worked at Hughes Aircraft Systems Division (Richmond, BC) on CAATS specifications, and developed an integrated desktop authoring/database management tool (Interleaf On-line Tracking Application - IOTA) and specification assembly tools. Between 1997 and 1999, I was a project manager for Open Text, and was the architect and co-developer of many applications (notably, Bell Atlantic’s Tariff Management and Publishing System, built on Livelink, and documented in the May 2000 edition of Dr. Dobb’s journal; as well as TransLink’s records and document management system, also built on Livelink). Since 1999, I have been mostly dedicated to XML publishing solutions for large documents, built around TopLeaf XML Composition software. I developed XMLComposer - a Windows service that permits easy integration of TopLeaf with content management systems - for automated technical publication production. Tools:Java, Javascript, HTML, ASP, Visual Basic, Visual C++, some Perl, SQL Server (some Oracle), Office software (Word, Access, Excel), XMetal, TopLeaf. |
