Career profile:

While employed by a multi-faceted mortgage financing group, I acquired skills in business planning, accounting, and commercial real estate brokerage.  Simultaneously, I studied toward my CGA and a diploma in Urban Land Economics.  I acquired an expertise in commercial mortgage financing, especially financial math.  The strength that emerged was in setting up new business ventures, including creating and implementing business plans, policies and procedures, and marketing materials.  Meanwhile, I worked in the real estate development industry and then joined the credit union system, developing policies and procedures and business forms for all aspects of the banking industry, and managing a department of six writers.

By 1996, my team had published on the internet, 10,000 manual pages and 1,000 print on demand forms, including an extensive subject index.  I developed various new mortgage products over the years, including the first plain language mortgage, and a flexible mortgage product used by most credit unions.  I also developed a human resources administration manual, a model personnel policy handbook, and a set of complementary forms.  In all these areas, I worked extensively with new and amended legislation, such as privacy, employment standards, and proceeds of crime, to update policies and procedures.  I also created internal audit programs for every aspect of the banking industry.

While working, I served on the board of governors of a major non-profit, and developed a board policy manual for that organization.

After 20 years, I switched to business development in the title insurance industry, which involved analyzing client (banks) mortgage products and processing needs and developing appropriate training materials for mortgage processing.

Since becoming an independent consultant in 2006, my most challenging contract was leading a team of six writers as project manager, to develop a set of 65 maintenance manuals for a submersible.
