Published: January 2008 in Message from the President

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you enjoyed your holidays and don’t find
these post-holidays to be too dark. Myself, I decided to get up when the sun
comes up, do it the natural way, only the sun never comes up…

Here are some items you might be interested in:

January event:
The chapter has an event coming up: “Authoring and Publishing with DITA” on
Tuesday, January 15, 2008. This is the regular bi-monthly meeting. Jim Tivy,
the Chief Technology Officer at Bluestream Database Software Corp, will be
presenting on what DITA is and how to use it.

For this event, we have a special rate for STC members of $5. We have a
sponsor, WritersUA, who has generously sponsored the chapter. The most
effective way to sponsor the chapter is to reduce the cost, so you save $5.
This rate is just for this meeting, but it might bring some light to the
dark days.

You can register here:

March event:
The chapter is working with Content Convergence and Integration to put on an
afternoon workshop and socializing during the conference. This event will
take the place of our bi-monthly meeting and be in the second week of March
instead of the third. The workshop will start at 3pm and end at 5pm and you
can choose one of three or four workshops from the conference. More details
to follow next week, but I wanted to give you a heads up if you do want to
attend and need to take the time off work.

Chapter members will also get a 10% discount if they want to register for
the full conference. Also, if you want to volunteer, you’ll be able to
attend the conference. I’ll have more information for you on these two items
next week.

You can get more information on the conference here:

About our chapter sponsor:
WritersUA specializes in providing quality training and publications for the
community of user assistance professionals. The world of user assistance
comprises a variety of techniques and technologies to make working with
software a better experience. WritersUA is the premier source for
world-class, world-wide user assistance conferences and seminars. The annual
WritersUA Conference has attracted over eight thousand participants in the
past fifteen years. The next event takes place March 16-19 in Portland,
Oregon. http://www.writersua.com.
