My STC membership puts me in contact with other professionals and enables me to tap into a vast pool of domain knowledge.

For the past six years I’ve worked alone, be it as a remote team member or the only technical writer, sometimes both! During that time, being an active member of the technical communication community of practice has become an increasingly important element of my professional life.  My STC membership puts me in contact with other professionals and enables me to tap into a vast pool of domain knowledge. It also gives me a hand in shaping how our rapidly-evolving profession will look in the future and in promoting the value our services.

Woody Allen observed that 80% of success is showing up. In a similar vein, world champion middle-distance runner, Sebastien Coe, asserts that he wasn’t the best natural athlete, instead attributing his success to showing up for training week after week.

Like so many of you, participating in STC is one of ways in which I show up.

I wish you all a happy holiday season!
