Thank you for welcoming me as your chapter President! This is an honour, truly. I look forward to kicking off the term but first I must thank the 2010/11 executive board.
Our esteemed leader, Catherine Kerr, becomes immediate Past President. Helen Glavina continues as Treasurer. Rob Hughes carries on as Secretary. And Eagranie Yuh, Tracey Martinsen, and Oliver Sterczyk retire from the executive posts they held during 2010/11. Thank you present and past execs for your service. Your dedication and hard work have kept CWC strong and viable. May the rewards flow freely from your doing good and giving back.
Readers probably know the regularity with which we seek executive board nominations. The 2011/12 year shapes up no differently. The chapter now calls for nominees for Vice President. We’ve posted a blurb in the job bank and on the chapter home page. Please give it some thought, and don’t be shy - you’re welcome to nominate yourself.
While holding the seat warm for a VP, I feel momentum in this new season. Team leads got their mojo in gear, working over parts of the CWC engine. Here’s what’s checked off—September’s speaker nabbed, volunteers thanked, scholarship winner announced, workshop scheduled, tweets sent, LinkedIn promo started, Facebook stats trending (visits and users up by a third). Plus we’re adding jobs to the bank, recruiting volunteers, grooming team leads, and networking over iced coffee.
Our tireless team leads and volunteers wear many hats. Some will be wearing different hats in the coming year while others have hung up their hats. To those who toil behind the scenes, a deserved round of thanks.

By now we’re pretty good at doing things that societies do. No doubt some of us belong to the same virtual communities, too. And just to emphasize the social part, the chapter has adopted social media, with a presence on Twitter (@stccwc), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/stccwc), and LinkedIn (STC Canada West Coast group). When it comes to face-to-face meeting, well, we also enjoy planned interaction at meetings in person. This differentiates us from groups that know each other only online—STC members expect and welcome more engagement from their dues-paying community.
Over the summer we’ll be working on professional activities to earn the chapter some gold stars. And I’ll be working on the vision statement. The theme is “It’s your chapter too, engage!”. True to the vision, here’s your chance to try out volunteering, try on a few hats. With your participation we’ll keep this place lively and give you a reason to talk about CWC.
Cheers,
Pam Drucker
President 2011/12
