Writing or technical related organizations with branches or events/networking opportunities in Victoria

Canadian Society for Training and Development (http://www.cstd.ca/chapters/vancouveri)
Annual membership $294.25 plus opportunity to join ASTD for a discounted rate.

Federation of BC Writers (http://www.bcwriters.com)
Open to any writer; annual membership $65 (discount for students and seniors); annual conference, newsletter.

Professional Editors Association of Vancouver Island (peavi.bc.ca)
Open to editorial professionals; annual membership $45. Monthly meetings

Professional Writers Association of Canada (formerly known as Periodical Writers Association of Canada) (http://www.pwac.ca)
Open to any writer (Associate or Professional status); probably most STC members would qualify for Professional standing. Searchable database of members and regular events. Costs $255 (Victoria) or $265 (Vancouver) for annual membership.

Vancouver Island Technology Centre (http://www.viatec.ca)
A couple of people had joined VIATeC in the past but found the annual membership fee ($400) excessive for the benefits. Associate and student memberships are cheaper. Lots of events, job postings, et cetera.

Also:
Association of Writers & Writing Programs (http://www.awpwriter.org)
For teachers of creative writing; great conferences open to all.

National Association of Writers in Education (http://www.nawe.co.uk)
UK organization for writers who teach.

Writers Union of Canada (http://www.writersunion.ca)
Membership requires one book or equivalent published.
