Information Interview Service
Are you new to the field of technical writing, or considering entering the field? Do you have questions about what this work is like, what training is best, what skills you need, or how much you can earn as a technical writer?
The STC Canada West Coast chapter Information Interview Service gives you the chance to talk to a volunteer senior technical writer to ask the questions you’ve been wanting answered.
Whether you are a tech writing student and you have to do an interview for your program, or you’re considering entering the field of tech writing, or perhaps you’re already in the field but want to speak to a more experienced writer about questions you have, this service is for you! The service offers a 30- to 60-minute interview (length is at the discretion of the senior writer). The interview can be in person or on the phone, depending on what the two of you decide.
Are you interested in entering the field?
To help give you even more information about the field of technical writing, participating in the Information Interview Service entitles you to attend the next chapter program meeting for free. This gives you the chance to talk with other technical writers of different levels of experience.
The program meetings usually offer a talk from an experienced writer about a subject of interest to technical communicators, with light snacks and the opportunity for chatting with the other attendees. The usual cost for a program meeting is $5 for technical writing students and $20 for non-members.

Making an optional donation
We suggest an optional donation of $10 for the service. The donation is optional so that money is not a barrier to those seeking an interview. If you are able to pay the donation, it will help keep our chapter alive and able to offer program events and other benefits to our members.
